About

Shibari Rope Bondage Art & Creative Erotica

Ever since I first saw pictures of Shibari / Kinbaku (the Japanese art of erotic rope bondage) I felt deeply drawn to the many layers that existed all at once in this intimate and fascinating dance between the 'Nawashi' (rope master) and model, held in a space of great trust, intimacy, intensity and spontaneous creation.

I was deeply inspired by the artistry, mastery, finesse and dynamism with which I saw the Japanese masters tie, and the beauty revealed in the women surrendered to the ropes: the physical restraint, the vulnerability, the emotional waves spontaneously showing through their faces and bodies, brought on by both pleasurable sensuality and the sometimes harsh bodily contortions, emotions amplified by their restriction, being taken right to the edge.

‘ArtOfSexpression’ began as a passion project for me in 2013, bringing together my fascination with Shibari, a growing interest in creative, classy photo-erotica, and Hojojutsu (the Samurai martial art of rope capture, restraint and display that inspired Shibari).

My previous career was as a recording engineer and music producer in the London music industry, so for me, photography and Shibari are simply other art forms where truly unique creations can evolve from whatever our own personal explorations have taught us.

Mine also includes 20+ years martial arts training in Bujinkan (genuine Samurai and Ninjutsu lineages) which adds a whole other level of dynamic embodiment practice to the very physical nature of Shibari.

I've attended Shibari Training & Workshops with

  • Hajime Kinoko (Japan)
  • Kazami Ranki (Japan)
  • Satomi Zpira (Japan)
  • Miumi U (Japan)
  • Ibarako Harumayu (Japan)
  • Pedro Cordes (Portugal)
  • Stefano Laforgia (Italy)
  • Avalon (Australia)
  • Lucero (Australia)
  • Hebari (Australia)

Working with many models and other photographers over the years and observing the creation of photo art and erotica has been a truly fascinating journey for my personal and professional evolution . This exploration has greatly deepened my understanding of relationship and masculine / feminine dynamics (the creative relationship between photographer and model, or director and actress, are perfect examples of this on many levels).

It has also highlighted the fears many people carry around authentic sexual expression, and so there needs to be very clear, open and clean communication in creating photo art drawn from the darker corners of the mind-body desires.

This has also revealed more deeply what is required for conscious, evolved sexual freedom, self-expression and authentic living in our personal lives and in society – breaking the bonds of societal taboos in these and many related areas.

My work for many years has been to help men and women better navigate life and relationship ... to learn how to deepen connection, trust, intimacy ... to live more authentically, embodied and free in life and sexual expression ... and to more deeply trust inner wisdom. I also run workshops using Japanese martial arts to teach men about relationship principles - MartialArtOfRelationship.com.
