Photoshoot Tips

A few simple reminders for both new and experienced models

  • Wear loose fitting clothes before a shoot and no tight underwear or socks if possible on shoot day as they mark your skin.
  • Bring a good selection of lingerie, stockings/hold ups, heels & also a selection of clothing – click here for some wardrobe ideas.
  • Please remove all labels from your underwear before the shoot - it really spoils the detail otherwise.
  • Please wash your hair and do any hair removal the day before.
  • Make sure your nails are in good condition – chipped nails/varnish looks terrible … unless that’s the look we want.
  • Arrive hydrated and fed - drink lots of water to hydrate your brain, body and skin.

Flexibility, Injuries & Stamina

Modelling can be hard work! You may need to hold a position for a long time, or be in postures you are not familiar with which can but a strain on your body and also impact your emotional state.

It’s important for me to know if you have any injuries or inflexibility in certain joints/limbs that prevent your body moving in certain ways, or physical positions that make you very uncomfortable in short period of time.

e.g. some people cannot bend to touch their toes, or cannot have their arms above their head for more than a few minutes because they begin to feel faint.

It is essential I know about anything like this as it affects your well being and what we may do on a shoot.

Also let me know if you are trained and practiced in yoga, dance, martial arts or anything else that requires form, flexibility and stamina as this will be to our advantage on a shoot.

Photoshoot Terms

TFP shoots (trade for prints) means we collaborate together to create great pics and no-one gets paid (unless someone is paying me for the shoot and then I can pay you). This may include hair/make up artists under the same agreement and conditions.

I’ll edit a few pics from each shoot (or each set if we do e.g. 3 sets/locations/ties/clothing changes) depending on what results we get (sometimes 2 or 3 of the very best images per set, sometimes up to 8).

I will never share all images from a shoot under any circumstances, even if you pay me. Only images I approve as of a high enough standard will be released once edited.

It may take up to 3-4 weeks to complete editing shoot images and send them to you. I’ll send you a link where you can download them.

Copyright for all TFP images always belongs to the photographer but you are free to use them for your portfolio and profile, for your own promotion but not for sale or in exchange for payment in any way.

Here are some copyright links for your reference:

IMPORTANT; Images can only be used as supplied.

You are not permitted to edit, crop or process the images in any way, including adding filters or removing any watermarks.

If my edits or the end result are not to your liking please, let me know, and we can work on creating something you love, but you do not have permission to edit, crop or change any of my images in any way.

I may ask you to sign a model release but it is unlikely I will want to use any images for anything other than my own galleries or portfolios.

By shooting with me you agree to the above terms. If you do not agree then please tell me and do not shoot with me.

Chaperones

Safety is of the utmost importance and references should always be checked so you feel comfortable and relaxed on your shoot, knowing you are working in a professional environment with someone experienced.

At the same time, some models ask if they can bring a chaperone for the shoot.

Most photographers and models agree that having someone on a shoot who is not part of the creative process generally just gets in the way of the rapport between the model and photographer, can break the creative flow and communication, and can actually detract from the shoot so much that sometimes nothing relaxed and creative can be achieved!

If you feel you would like to bring someone with you please consider how this may affect your ability to model and to discuss ideas freely without concern for what your chaperone may think.

If you decide you want to bring someone it is best that they are female and not your boyfriend, husband or male partner as this can often cause unnecessary tension and (un)predictable results.

In some cases chaperones may be asked to wait in another room for the duration for the shoot to leave us free to work unhindered by uninvolved third parties.

Any questions – just get in touch.

Thank you, and very much looking forward to what we can create.
